A referral is not required for an appointment at North Star Family Psychology. However, most clients find they are eligible to receive a rebate from Medicare and present with a Mental Health Care Plan and referral from their GP.
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends a fee of $251 for a 50-minute psychology consultation. To make our services more accessible for individuals requiring psychological services, the consultation fee has been reduced to $220 for a standard 50-minute session.
Reduced fees are available for people with a government health care card and others in financial hardship; please enquire when booking an appointment. Please note, due to high demand there is usually a waiting list for the limited number of reduced-fee appointments available.
Fees at North Star Family Psychology are lower than fees of many psychologists and those recommended by the Australian Psychological Association to ensure everybody has access to good quality and affordable health services.
Under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Initiative, those with a Health Care Plan receive rebates for up to ten psychological consultations per calendar year. The current rebate for a clinical psychologist is $126.50 per session, leaving an out-of-pocket cost of $83.50 per session.
Many private health care funds also provide additional rebates in addition to Medicare. Please contact your fund for further information.
In urgent cases clients can often be seen within 1-2 weeks of first contact, however typical wait times would be 2-4 weeks.
